RULES FOR USE OF WSNET
ALIASES
All users shall use their true names. "Handles" and aliases are not
permitted at any time.
CLUTTER
All users should strive to avoid lengthy quotation from other messages,
or use of elaborate art for signatures.
FLAMES
Users most refrain from "flaming." Flaming consists of name calling,
slurs, ad hominem responses to arguments or other rude and insulting
behavior. Excoriating rhetoric is not permitted.
Profanity is also prohibited. In the event that another user "flames"
users must refrain from replying to or censuring the party in further
messages, since this results in diverting the flow of the conferences
from useful traffic to flames.
In the event that a user is concerned about other's behavior, or
feels that message traffic is a violation of this rule may direct brief,
routed (non-public) messages to the moderator of the conference.
OFFICIAL LANGUAGE
English is the official language of the WSNet network. Message
traffic should be in English.
LIMITATIONS ON USE OF NETWORK FOR PROFIT
Other than the limited exceptions stated below traffic for pecuniary
gain is prohibited. Non-commercial users may discuss sales of items
that they own. Businesses may no more than once every week place a
brief description of their services in appropriate areas.
In conferences devoted to particular products this rule does not apply.
"PRIVATE" MESSAGING
The WSNet provides "routed" message traffic, which is a facility by
which messages are designated for delivery to a specific individual.
However, these messages are not ensured of privacy since the network
can not verify compliance by all systems and can not verify that the
internal security of each system is adequate.
BARRING OF USERS
Users may be barred or locked out at the discretion of the conference
moderators. Individual computer bulletin board systems retain the right
to decline to receive message traffic from particular individuals
at their discretion. The facilities of the WSNet network reserves
the right to temporarily or permanetly suspend operations at any time
and for any reason.
PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS
The conference moderator is an official appointed by the WSNet
network who generally "policies" the conference. The moderator
will insure that the spirit and letter of any network regulations
are followed.
Unless a violation is egregious, willful or considered by the
conference moderator to be an imminent threat to the network,
first violators will be warned by routed traffic to desist.
Upon further violations, a user may be placed on probation or
temporarily or permanently barred from the network, or some
areas of the network.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
The WSNet network is a non-profit association of volunteers.
In consideration of access to the network, all users waive the right
to make claims of any kind related to the activities of the network,
and assume the risk of all transactions which they undertake herein.
IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT IF MESSAGES ARE CRITICAL THAT A
COMMERCIAL CARRIER BE USED.
RIGHT TO CHANGE
The WSNet network may change regulations at any time by publishing
notice of the changes in the affected conferences.
RESPONSE TO SUBPOENAS; COURT ORDERS
The WSNet network, if directed to do so by subpoena or other court
order may provide the contents of any messages, including "routed"
or "encrypted" messages to official authority.
